That boy Ronaldo !!

It's getting harder and harder to find superlatives to describe Cristiano Ronaldo. When he burst onto the scene at Old Trafford, he was exciting and talented, then he turned into skilful and dangerous. Now, if you ask me, he is simply the best.

With an outstanding strike rate of 27 goals in just 28 games, Ronaldo looks unstoppable. We all knew the Madeira-born winger was blessed with raw talent and skill. It doesn't take a world class scout to spot the kind of natural ability the Manchester United star showed from an early age. I had a chance to watch Ronaldo for the first time as a young 16-year-old prodigy in Lisbon, when he made a few cameo appearances for Sporting Club. At the time, he was skinny and fragile, but he had the quickest feet I had ever seen. Step-overs, fakes, shimmies, he had them all. He wasn't the most effective player on the pitch, but he certainly brought the crowd to life. A few years later, he has turned into the most dominant player in world football. He is stronger, faster, and more powerful than ever before. This year his goal-scoring exploits are astounding. 27 goals in 28 games? Are you kidding me? That's the best strike rate in the world at the moment, better than Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimovic or any of the other top strikers in Europe. And he's a winger!

So how good can he get? I don't possibly know how he could get any better. The key will be keeping a level head so he can stay at the top for as long as possible. Life in the fast lane has led to the the premature decline of other bright stars such as George Best, Diego Maradona, Paul Gascoigne, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. So an excess in partying can be avoided at all costs. So far, the Portuguese winger has kept a low profile. Every time I have met him, he has seemed to have his priorities straight and his ego under control. If he stays that way, all will be fine. And we will still be singing his praises in 10 years time.
